The bucket-list valley every Bangalorean should see at least once
They call it paradise on earth, and once you glide across Dal Lake on a shikara at first light, you understand why. Kashmir hands you the postcards you grew up imagining — mirror-still lakes ringed by snow peaks, wooden houseboats with carved verandahs, Mughal gardens dropping in terraces to the water, and meadows that turn from tulip-pink in April to deep summer green to autumn gold. For a family from Bangalore, it is the one domestic trip that feels like flying abroad without the passport.
The valley is built for an easy week. Srinagar is your base for Dal Lake and the gardens; Gulmarg lifts you up by gondola to snow and meadows; Pahalgam and the Betaab and Aru valleys open up the green river country; and Sonamarg gives you glaciers and pony trails. Add hot Kahwa, a proper wazwan feast, and saffron and walnut to carry home, and you have a holiday that stays with the whole family.

Travel tips from our team
- Travel with a planned operator and stick to the popular circuits — Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg are busy and set up for visitors
- For tulips, come early-to-mid April; for snow and skiing, January–February in Gulmarg
- Carry warm layers even in summer; mornings on the lake are crisp
- Let us book a clean, well-run houseboat on Dal or Nigeen Lake

- Buy saffron, Pashmina and dry fruit from trusted shops we recommend
Kashmir, answered
When is the best time to visit Kashmir?
April–June brings tulips (peak early–mid April) and green meadows; July–August is a cool monsoon-season escape; September–October gives golden chinars; and December–February is the time for snow and Gulmarg skiing.
How many days do I need for Kashmir?
Five to six nights comfortably covers Srinagar and Dal Lake, Gulmarg, Pahalgam with the Betaab and Aru valleys, and a Sonamarg day trip.
Will we see snow?
Yes, if you time it right. For reliable snow head to Gulmarg between December and February, when it becomes India's main ski destination. In early spring you can still catch snow on the higher slopes.
How do we reach Kashmir from Bangalore?
You fly into Srinagar. On most days there is no non-stop from Bengaluru, so the usual routing is one stop via Delhi, around 5–6 hours total. We arrange flights, transfers and the full ground itinerary.
What is included in an Oyster Kashmir package?
Return flights from Bangalore, a houseboat night plus hotels, all transfers, daily breakfast, the shikara ride and sightseeing across Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg. Gondola tickets and pony rides can be added.
