Why Ladakh belongs on every Bangalorean's bucket list
Ladakh is unlike anywhere else you can fly to from Bangalore. Picture barren ochre moonscapes folding into snow-capped peaks, whitewashed monasteries clinging to cliffs, and a sky so blue and so close it feels unreal. This is the high-altitude desert of the Himalayas — Leh sits at over 11,500 ft, and from there the roads climb to some of the highest motorable passes on earth. It is part pilgrimage, part adventure, all wonder.
The headline acts are world-famous for good reason: the colour-shifting waters of Pangong Lake, the sand dunes and double-humped camels of Nubra Valley, the dizzying heights of Khardung La, and the great gompas of Thiksey, Hemis and Diskit. A word from us at Oyster: Ladakh asks for patience — give your body a day or two to settle into the thin air, and it gives you the holiday of a lifetime.

Travel tips from our team
- PERMITS MATTER — Indians (not just foreigners) need an Inner Line Permit / Environmental Development Fee for Pangong, Nubra, Tso Moriri, Khardung La and Dah-Hanu (~₹600–700 pp), applied online or via your operator; carry printed copies and photo ID
- ACCLIMATISE FIRST — Leh is above 11,500 ft; plan a full rest day on arrival; the administration mandates 48 hours in Leh before higher spots
- Pack for big temperature swings — fleeces and a windcheater even in summer, sunscreen and sunglasses
- Carry cash — ATMs are limited outside Leh, and only postpaid SIMs work in Ladakh
- Stay hydrated and skip alcohol the first couple of days; tell us about any heart or breathing conditions
- Book domestic flights early in peak season; weather can change plans, so keep a buffer day
Ladakh, answered
Do I need a permit for Pangong, Nubra or Tso Moriri?
Yes — and it applies to Indian citizens too. An Inner Line Permit plus the Environmental Development Fee is required (around ₹600–700 per person for a multi-area trip), applied online via the official LAHDC Leh portal or arranged by us; carry printed permits and photo ID. Children under 12 and Ladakh residents are exempt.
How serious is altitude sickness, and how do you handle it?
Worth taking seriously — Leh is above 11,500 ft. We build a full rest day into every itinerary on arrival, keep the early pace gentle, and only head higher once you have settled. Drink water and avoid alcohol for the first couple of days.
When is the best time to visit Ladakh?
May to September is the main season, with the roads and high passes open. June–July are busiest and safest for first-timers; September is quieter with golden light. Winter is the niche Chadar trek only.
How do I reach Ladakh from Bangalore?
Fly — there is no direct flight, so a one-stop connection via Delhi to Leh, roughly 5–6 hours total. We arrange the connection and your Leh transfers.
What is included in an Oyster Ladakh package?
One-stop return flights via Delhi, hotels (and a Nubra/Pangong camp), the Inner Line Permit and environment fee, all transfers and sightseeing by private vehicle, and daily breakfast.
